All the necessary carving tools are a must have if you want to do any work in transforming a block of wood into a beautiful art piece. Discussed below are the various tools you may require to create carved wood plaques:

1. Knives- Carving knives are categorized into draw and mini draw ones. The function of a draw knife is to trim a piece of wood into the required size by cutting off any protruding edges and smoothing uneven surfaces. The mini draw knife is meant to prevent your fingers and palms from becoming too tired.
2. Spindling equipment- This tool is used for making patterns on cylindrical objects since it moves in a rotating motion.
3. Carving mallet is used together with a chisel to create a carved wood plaque. The mallet enables the chisel to carve and take out bits of wood from the surface of the plaque.
4. Pen- this is not just an ordinary type of pen, but one that has different tips used for putting down designs on piece of art. You will also need wood carving plaques in your kit.
5. With the above tools, you can now start your project of making a carved wood plaque. Smooth out the surface of the plaque with sand paper so as to make a favorable condition to work on then remove the dust from the surface so that it does not interfere with the ink you will be using. The plaque should be illuminated and enlarged to make it possible to curve out complex designs. Use magnifiers that are attached to torches for this purpose.
6. Try making patterns on a paper before you make a carved wood plaque. This will give you confidence and prevent you from making too many mistakes on the plaques.
7. Draw your pattern on the surface and do it carefully since it would prove very difficult to rectify mistakes on the plaques once you make them. It is advisable to leave the piece to dry up for several hours before you actually carve out the patterns using the carving pen do not forget to use the magnifying glass and torch so as to highlight and guide you in making the finer details of the patterns. Now your carved wood wall plaque is ready for display after you dust it off.
